Lehigh, Bucks & Western
| Our layout, named the Lehigh, Bucks & Western (LB&W) is constructed for
H.O. scale trains (1:87 full size) with an outside dimension of 35' x 44'. The 'Walk Around' design allows an operator
to stay with their train as it moves over three levels ranging from 25" to 60" above the floor. A double
track main line originates in East Allen yard then heads west through areas loosely modeled after actual locations
as well as free lanced locations. The Westen line yard represents the furthest western connection on the layout.
All main line track is Code 83 flex with a minimum radius of 36" and a maximum grade of 2 percent. When complete there will be over 100 Turnouts (switches) and an excess of 3,500 feet of track (58 scale miles) on the layout. Trains are controlled using Digitrax DCC (Digital Command Control). This technology permits each engineer to control their own train anywhere on the layout. A dispatcher can also monitor the status of the layout and all trains from a computer console located in an adjacent room. Track side signals are planned for the future to assist with operation of the layout. During the spring and summer of 2011 the members have completed the bench work on the upper deck and installed the remaining main line track and turnouts. Scenery has also been a priority with several large sections of both the upper and lower decks now covered with rocks, trees, foliage and new structures. |
